Music Notes

The Doobie Brothers

The Doobie Brothers is an American rock band from San Jose, California. They formed in 1969 and they’re still active.

Their first album was the self-titled album released in 1971. I remember listening to the band on the radio in the seventies and early eighties but not after that.

The Doobie Brothers – Listen to the Music and Jesus Is Just Alright

These are two hit songs from the 1972 Toulouse Street album. I’m pretty sure I heard both of them on my cheap portable radio around my birthday when I turned 12. Yes, I’m old.

The Doobie Brothers – Long Train Running and China Grove

These are two hit songs from the 1973 The Captain and Me album.

The Doobie Brothers – Black Water

This is the only song I like from their 1974 What Were Once Vices Are Now Habit album.

The Doobie Brothers – Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While)

This is the only song I like from their 1974 Stampede album.

The Doobie Brothers – Takin’ It to the Streets and It Keeps You Runnin’

These are two hit songs from the 1976 Takin’ It to the Streets album. The first song was the first single for lead singer Michael McDonald.

The Doobie Brothers – What a Fool Believes and Minute by Minute

These are two hit songs from the 1978 Minute by Minute album. I distinctly remember hearing them on the radio in the Philippines when I was there in 1983.

Although the band released more albums than the ones I’ve mentioned, I like less of their songs than what would fill a compact disc today. Ten, if I’m counting correctly.

I have all of these songs as MP3 files on my laptop as well as my cell phone. No more and no less. I rarely listen to them because I have hundreds of songs that are much more recent.
